FAILURE TO SERVE ATTRACTS PENALTY - Ayibiowu


The Assistant Director, Community Development Service NYSC Osun State, Mr. Felix Ayibiowu has stated that failure of Corps members to serve the one year mandatory service to the nation attracts penalty.

He stated this while delivering a lecture on the NYSC Bye-laws at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Thursday. Ayibiowu stressed that the Certificate of National Service is a mandatory criteria for securing employment in the country, noting that failure of Corps members to participate in the one year Scheme attracts a fine or imprisonment or both.

According to Ayibiowu, the essence of the establishment of NYSC was to enhance the development of common tribes among Nigerian youths, as well as promotion of National unity. 

Speaking on what Corps members are entitled to during and after the Service, Ayibiowu added that the National Certificate of Service and that of Exemption will be given to those who served  and those who were exempted from the Scheme respectively; noting that those totally excluded from the Scheme are currently serving Nigeria such as people in the Army, Nigerian Police, Civil Defence and many others.

While stating the various offences and their penalties, Ayibiowu said that lateness to any activity attracts 15 minutes of drill from the Camp Commandant, In addition, leaving the Camp without the Permission of the State Coordinator will attract extension of service. 

Speaking on Gambling, Ayibiowu emphasized that Corps members caught gambling within the Camp will pay a fine, while any Corps member caught to be in possession of Arms and Ammunition will be handed over to the Police for prosecution.

He warned that Corps members should not capitalize on the opportunity given to drink to get drunk within the Camp, stressing that the penalty will be extra drill for 20 minutes.

Mr Felix further warned that the Camp has conducted her welcome party already, adding that on no account should Corps members organize party for themselves anywhere within the Camp premises.
