Cultural Carnival Showcases Depth and Beauty in Diverse Cultures - Shokpeka
The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has called on the 2022 Batch A Stream II Corps Members to look beyond the glitz and glamour of the Cultural Carnival and allow the real objectives behind the programme become a living reality to them.
Shokpeka in her speech told the Corps Members that the Cultures in display may not be their Culture however, it is important to appreciate and learn from them.
She stated that the Cultural Carnival was incorporated into the Scheme's Orientation programme to showcase the depth and beauty in the nation's diverse Cultures which according to her should not divide us but rather bond us together as one indivisible entity.
According to Shokpeka, no culture is superior to another as every culture is unique in her own way. She urged them to watch out for the similarities in the various cultures on display and respect the differences that makes each culture unique and beautiful.
Furthermore, she urged the corps members to have fun responsibly as the Cultural Carnival marks the end of social activities on camp.
She appreciated the Man 'O' War, Platoon inspectors, Social Directors and all Camp Officials for their efforts towards the success of Camp programs.
Earlier, the Head of Man 'O' War, Mr Mohammed Ayodeji informed the Corps members that the essence of the Camp carnival was to showcase the uniqueness in Nigerian Cultures, and it seeks to also expose the Corps Members to the beauty inherent in each Culture.
He appreciated the NYSC Scheme for introducing the Cultural Carnival into the Orientation program, which according to him, makes it possible for Corps Members to see other cultures therefore, creating a deep sense of appreciation and respect for them.
The event which took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Saturday, featured various performances , beginning with procession of each platoon, camp officials opening dance, to platoons’ cultural performances and then special performance from the Man 'O' War.
Among the cultures displayed during the carnival were Efik culture by Platoon 1, Tiv by Platoon 2, Edo culture by Platoon 3, Osun Oshogbo, Igbo, Urhobo, Ibibio, Epic story of Sango, Eyo and Fulani Cultures displayed by Platoon 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
In the glitz and glamour, the competition ended with platoon 8 emerging 1st with 41.3 points while Platoons 3 and 4 took the 2nd and 3rd positions with 37 points and 36.6 points respectively.
