State Coordinator Sensitizes Corps Members on NYSC Acts and Bye-laws

 

The NYSC Osun State Cordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke has briefed the 2021 batch A stream II corps members on the essence of the NYSC Acts and Bye-laws.


He gave the sensitization at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Thursday.


He stressed that the Bye-laws were created in 1993 and divided into 5 different sections which include: the National Pledge, NYSC Pledge and Oath, NYSC forms on performance and participation of corps members, among others.

Mr Adegoke stated that the purpose of NYSC was to involve Nigerian graduate youths in national integration, nation building and in the socioeconomic development of the country.


Mr Adegoke gave a brief history of the creation and mandate of the scheme stating that it was created by Rt Gen. Yakubu Gowon to foster national unity and cohesion among the different ethnic groups. He further asserted that the presidency under President Muhammadu Buhari still recieves annual report on the operations of the scheme and presides over the scheme.

Additionally , he stated that the NYSC Act supplies information on the establishment and objectives of the scheme as clearly stated in Decree No.51 of 16 June 1993, calling up of members of the service corps which includes graduates of all higher institutions, establishment of a national directorate which is the highest body of the scheme, certification of national service among others.


"To participate in the program, a graduate must be below the age of 30 years," he added.
