UTILIZING NATURAL RESOURCES FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

 Resources has been explained as the available materials in a society that exist without any actions or involvement of humankind. Natural resources are said to be part of our heritage as people from various generations explore these resources available to them to improve their living conditions.

Natural resources as we know them may be classified into various groups. Fossil fuels which is the first of them consist consist of petroleum, Natural Gas, Coal. Again, we have metallic minerals which consist of tin, columbite, Iron and lead. Nonmetallic minerals include limestone, marble, clay, and Radio active minerals include Uranium and Monazite.

Quantity and quality of these natural resources available to individual countries determine to a large extent the socio- economic progress as well as the cultural transformation of that country. Nigeria as a country can boast of many sought after natural resources ranging from petroleum to Iron ore to rubber, cocoa, oil palm, timber, limestone amongst others. 

A proper utilization of these resources will lead to a brighter and better country. Whereas mis management or underutilization of these resources will lead to a state of utter dissatisfaction, confusion and uncertainty as is in the  case of the Nigerian society.

Considering the individual relevance of these resources give us a heightened understanding of the combined powerful impacts they could have if harnessed together. Take limestone for instance which is gotten from sedimentary rock aids the manufacturing of cement. Petroleum on the other hand is a naturally occuring liquid found beneath the earth's surface that can be refined into fuel. 

Effective exploration of these resources have the capacity to drastically increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This can only be possible if the people trusted with the responsibilities of harnessing these resources can be true to their course.

We therefore say that the Natural resources in Nigeria will aid National development when there is the use of the funds generated from mining, exportation and exploration of these minerals is channeled properly into solving national problems as capital projects and creation of further wealth through recreational and tourist centres.

With a land as blessed as Nigeria in natural resources, with the right skill set, motivation, sacrifice, honesty and dedication, Nigeria will become the envy of the world.
