NYSC OSUN VISITS NURTW, SEEKS TO PROMOTE CORPS MEMBERS SAFETY
The National Youth Service Corps Osun State has on Tuesday visited the National Union of Road Transport Workers in order to strengthen partnership with the Union in safeguarding the lives of corps members in the State.
The State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke who was accompanied by other staff of the scheme to the various branches of the NURTW in the State Capital Osogbo appreciated the chairmen of the Union for their efforts so far in ensuring the smooth conveyance of corps members during orientation programmes and also when they are traveling within and outside the State.
He further encouraged the Union to cooperate with security agencies who may be checking vehicles for corps members that will violate guidelines on movement, especially those traveling after 6pm. This action, according to him, is to reduce to the barest minimum the number of road traffic accidents that has claimed the lives of corps members over the years.
" these corps members are our children and their lives are sacronsact to us in NYSC. The Director-General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim and the NYSC family are appealing to your union to assist the scheme in ensuring that we do not loose any corps member through accident again.
"We want you to assist us in discouraging night journeys. Therefore, any corps member that comes to your garage to board a vehicle anytime from 6pm should be disallowed.
"Security agencies are equally going to work in synergy with us towards actualizing our goal but we need your cooperation" he said.
In conclusion, he told them to endeavor to report any Corps member who violates any of the guidelines to the management of the scheme, stressing that the corps members safety is important not only to the scheme but to every patriotic Nigerian.
Correspondingly, the chairmen of the NURTW branch in Old Garage, Ota-Efun Garage and Powerline Garage made a commitment to work in synergy with the scheme in safeguarding the lives of the corps members stressing that the corps members are their children and the future of our great nation.
They further assured the scheme of the cooperation of the union in all the local governments of the State where corps members are serving.
The visit was inline with the directive of the Director-General, Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim whose passion and commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members in the country is deeply ingrained in his mandate.
