OSUN STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH COMMENDS NYSC, ASSURES OF UNALLOYED SUPPORT AT THE FORTHCOMING 2020 BATCH B STREAM 2 ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
The National Youth Service Corps Osun State has been commended by the Ministry of Health for its efforts and strict compliance with the covid-19 preventive protocols during the orientation programmes for the 2020 Batch B stream 1a and 1b corps members.
The commendation was given during the Peer Review Meeting on NYSC/NCDC collaboration during the 2020 Batch B stream 1a and 1b orientation programme which held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede in November and December, 2020.
Speaking at the meeting on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health in the State, Hon. Rafiu Isamotu, while commending the State Coordinator and the NCDC team for a job well done, assured the NYSC that the state will do everything humanly possible to ensure that corps members stay safe during and after the forthcoming orientation programme.
The Honorable Commissioner emphasized on the need for the scheme to continue to ensure strict compliance to the COVID-19 preventive protocols by all camp participants even as the nation battles with the second wave of the virus.
"I was indeed impressed with the level of compliance with the preventive protocols that I observed when I and some other members of the Executive Council visited during the 2020 Batch B stream 1a and 1b orientation programme. It is a reflection of the success of the collaboration between the NYSC and NCDC.
" As you go for the 2020 batch B stream 2 orientation, I urge you and your team to ensure same level of compliance by all participants. Do not let down your guards but ensure the participants observe strict hygiene and the use of the face masks in the camp", he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke informed the Commissioner and the NCDC team on the need for the Ministry to review the scheme's performance on the level of compliance with the COVID-19 preventive protocols during the just concluded Orientation Programme and highlight the areas it needs to improve on as it prepares for the 2020 Batch B stream 2 orientation programme.
"COVID-19 has become more worrisome as the world faces the second wave of the Virus, it is important that you tell us areas where we need to improve on for us to have a safe and successful orientation programme", he added.
He further highlighted the achievements of the scheme's collaboration with the NCDC team during the concluded Orientation Programmes and the measures put in place to ensure that the corps members and officials have a smooth and safe orientation programme.
Mr Adegoke highlighted the Incinerator, Hand-washing Machines, Disinfectant Tunnel, Sample Collection Booth, Hand sanitizers, Wash hand points, Thermometers, among others as some of the measures put in place to safeguard the lives of camp participants. He also informed the Commissioner that regular sensitization of corps members and camp officials will be carried out during the programme.
Adegoke also appreciated the NCDC and Ministry of Health for sending hardworking and selfless personnel who worked in synergy with the scheme thereby ensuring the success recorded during the concluded orientation programmes.
He assured the Commissioner and the NCDC that the scheme will continue to adhere to the protocols and put in more efforts towards ensuring the safety of corps members in the State.
Subsequently, the Incident Officer who is a Professor with the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), Prof. Olaitan assured the NYSC of maximum support stressing that the COVID-19 is a fight for everyone.
He further appreciated NYSC for their contributions and support towards ensuring that corps members stay safe and urged them to keep up the good work.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Epidemiologist, Dr Adeagbo Omolola Yinka, urged the NYSC to continue adhering to the COVID-19 protocols, adding that the second wave of the Virus is here and requires more carefulness and strict compliance to the preventive protocols.
The NCDC inspection and Monitoring Officer, Mr Stephen Ohuneni commended the efforts of the corps medical personnel who worked tirelessly with the NCDC team during the orientation programmes and encouraged the NYSC to ensure that they work towards training more corps medical personnel on sample collection and testing in order to make the team's work at the forthcoming orientation easier and faster.
The review meeting also had in attendance some other IPC Personnel and senior officials of the NYSC scheme in the State.
