A deputy director from the NYSC headquarters, Abuja, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Sanusi, has admonished corps members against accepting foods and brown envelopes from politicians during Osun gubernatorial election slated for September 22nd.
Alhaji Sanusi, while addressing corps members ahead of the gubernatorial poll at Osogbo Local government area, Oke Baale, Osogbo, urged them to make preparations for their meals before poll, for security sake.
He also stated that participation as adhoc staff during the poll is voluntary, adding that the National Youth Service scheme would not force any corps member to participate.
"If you have any reason not to participate, the scheme will not force you, as a graduate, civilian and Nigerian that you are, you are free not to."
Speaking on electoral malpractice, Alhaji Sanusi noted that any corps member caught or accused of any electoral offence would be made to face the consequences.
He said "if caught, you will be charged like any other Nigerian, it does not matter if you are a serving corps member, whatever the penalty is, the NYSC scheme will not save you."
The deputy director also noted that it is mandatory for all corps members to be on uniform, for easy identification, adding that they are restrained from boarding other vehicles aside the ones provided by the electoral commission.
He further advised them to be neutral during the poll and work in harmony with their team, in strict adherence to the rules guiding electoral processes.
Also addressing the corps members, the Osun NYSC state coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Attah, implored them to be of good conducts and be non partisan of any political party.
In attendance were Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, in charge of Inspection monitoring, Zonal inspector for Oshogbo, Mr Kayode Ola Peters, Osogbo Local Government Inspector, Mr Dolapo Stephen, other NYSC officials and corps members.
