NYSC: AN INDISPENSABLE TOOL IN NATION BUILDING- INEC BOSS

The Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, State of Osun, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje has described the National Youth Service Corps as an indispensable tool in nation building, accentuating on the  contributions of the Scheme in nation building since inception.

He made this known during his courtesy call on the Osun State Coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Attah, in his office today, in Osogbo.

The INEC boss adumbrated some of the successes recorded by the commission since the signing of a Memorandum Of Understanding with the NYSC; and further expressed optimism in the success that will ensue in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.

Mr Agbaje stressed on the commission's resolve to use only corps members serving in the State as adhoc staff in order to guarantee a credible process.

He noted that this choice was made based on the apolitical nature of the Scheme, its integrity and commitment which has made the Commission's collaboration with the Scheme a worthwhile venture.

Mr. Agbaje reiterated the Commission's support for the Scheme in carrying out its adhoc duties during the election. He promised the provision of a fully fuelled vehicle for the inspection of corps locations during the election.

Correspondingly, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Attah appreciated the commission's boss for deeming it fit to strengthen the synergy between the Scheme and the Commission in the State. 

Mr Attah ssured the Commission of the Scheme's resolve to provide dedicated, highly disciplined and committed members for the forthcoming election, while  harping on provision of adequate security for members as he would not tolerate any of the Scheme's members being intimidated by any politician in the State.

The NYSC boss further  craved the indulgence of the Commission to support the laudible efforts of the Scheme by making provision for additional vehicles to ease the inspection of NYSC members at their various polling units during the exercise.

Highlight of the visit also was presentation of NYSC publications to the Commissioner by the State Coordinator.
