Federal Government Delaying The Payment Of Salaries Till 30th -31 Of Every Month An Effective Methodology Or Bad Approach To Sustain The Workers

In recent years, cases of irregular payments of salaries to workers have become a house hold issue. In carrying out the study, survey methodology was used in gathering data, after gathering data and analyzing the data it was discovered that delaying the payment of salaries until the end of the month can have both positive and negative implications for workers. Let's examine the potential effects:

Positive aspects:

1. Improved cash flow management: By aligning salary payments with the end of the month, the government may have better control over its financial resources and ensure that it has sufficient funds to meet its obligations.

2. Budget planning: Employees can anticipate their monthly income and plan their expenses accordingly. Knowing exactly when they will receive their salary can help individuals budget more effectively.

3. Consistency: If the government consistently delays salary payments until the end of the month, employees can adjust their expectations and plan their financial activities accordingly.

Negative aspects:

1. Financial strain: Workers who rely on regular, timely paychecks to cover their monthly expenses may face financial challenges if their salaries are consistently delayed. This can lead to difficulties in meeting immediate financial obligations, such as rent, utilities, or loan payments.

2. Lower morale and motivation: Delayed salary payments can negatively impact employee morale and motivation. Workers may feel undervalued or that their financial well-being is not a priority for the government, which can have adverse effects on productivity and job satisfaction.

3. Increased reliance on credit: Some employees may turn to credit options, such as loans or credit cards, to bridge the financial gap caused by delayed salary payments. This can lead to increased debt and financial stress for individuals.

In summary, delaying salary payments until the end of the month can provide certain benefits to the government in terms of financial management. However, it can also pose challenges for workers, particularly those living paycheck to paycheck. To sustain workers effectively, it is important for the government to consider the financial well-being of its employees and implement strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of delayed salary payments, such as providing financial education, offering alternative payment options, or considering more frequent pay periods if feasible.

In conclusion, the payment of good salaries is fundamental to the increase in productivity of employee. Therefore, a suitable payment system is a prerequisite for effective performance. In other to motivate people to put maximum efforts, it is essential that their various needs, especially as it concerns wages/salaries and other fringe benefits; be satisfied as far as practicable. In Nigeria, the salary structure falls below the level to maintain efficiency. It is not in line with the economic realities.

Recommendations:

The under listed recommendations are being made to improve the productivity of Nigerian workers.

1. The issue of paying regular salaries to workers should be considered as a priority by the government.

2. Free education at all levels should be given to all Nigerian especially the children and youths, just as it exists in many western countries. This will reduce the financial burden on parents who are also workers in the country.

3. There should be sustainable welfare scheme for all the categories of workers.

4. There should also be a way of rewarding efficiency at work so that other members of staff may start to envy those rewarded and through that may change for better.

5. Promotion and conversion have also been identified as another motivational factor. Workers should be promoted as at when due.
