Sweden’s Rumoured Sex Championship; Blessing Or Curse?
Like they say, in life you never know what will hit you next. While a vast majority are of the opinion that the unpredictability of life is actually what makes our lives interesting, many others wish for a life where they knew everything that would happen to them beforehand so they could at least have some sort of control over their lives.
In 1989 when Denmark according to Wikipedia became the first country in the whole of the universe to legalize homosexuality, not many were prepared for this surprise, but here we are a couple of years later many countries have followed suit; and quoting Wikipedia, the number of countries practicing this as of today stands at 34 with the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France being some of the big names involved today.
Did the surprises end there? Of course not. Over the years, we have witnessed the legalization of prostitution in countries like Costa Rica, Finland, Austria, Denmark, Germany etc. Not just this, a lot of controversial and sensitive aspects of our lives have become a topic of legal discourse in various countries of the world and on each occasion, a question of morality is being asked.
Not too long ago, many people were left with their mouths open agape when they got perhaps the most shocking report of their lives that Sweden was planning to hold a first-of-its-kind sex sport competition. Many reactions trailed this story and a whole lot of controversies were generated.
However, emerging reports from Sweden have proven that this was just misinformation with a story earlier published by a Sweden media outlet, Göteborg-Posten, highlighting that although the Sweden Sports Confederation otherwise known as RF had received an application from the Sweden Sex Federation to allow it become part of the nation’s sporting outfit, this application was rejected as it was said to not have met certain requirements.
Nevertheless, one cannot totally rule out the possibility of Sweden taking such a bold step in the nearest future as we have seen some countries of the world giving legal backing to various contentious and controversial issues most people never imagined would be legally recognized.
The question now remains, should Sweden eventually implement this, will it be to the advantage of the country’s economy or a disadvantage? Well, as shocking as it might seem, the shortest and most straightforward answer to this question is that taking this step will serve as a boost to the country’s economy.
Ignoring the moral angle to this, this championship is like every other sporting activity that can come to mind. Like the Olympics, the FIFA World Cup, a sex championship will generate an unbelievably high level of revenue for the nation. Just as Daily Mail reported that the English Premier League was said to have generated for the UK 7.6 billion Pounds in the 2019/2020 season, a sex championship in Sweden could also generate an income this high all things being equal.
Also, even though sex is such a sensitive topic many people might not like to discuss in public, there is no shying away from the fact that it is an area of life that interests a large number of people. This further shows that such a championship will most likely garner a high number of fans which automatically equates to a huge amount of revenue.
Conclusively, although it remains to be seen if Sweden as a country will be willing to go this route of pioneering a championship like this (having already debunked the initial reports) given the fact that a lot of eyebrows will be raised and questions asked; there is no arguing that launching a sport competition like this will be a big boost to the nation’s economy. And also, considering past experiences with some other scenarios, many other countries are likely to follow in the footsteps of Sweden after-all they say the first time is always the hardest.
