NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Make Good Use of the Skills Acquisition Programme







 

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General MK Fadah has urged Corps Members to take advantage of  the Skills Acquisition Programme of the NYSC Scheme.

The Director-General said this while in his welcome address at the Swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2022 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Tuesday. 

The DG who was represented by the State Coordinator NYSC Osun, Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka, charged the Corps Members to avail themselves of the opportunity to acquire skills needed to help them become  self employed and self reliant as there are not much readily available white collar jobs.

The Director-General enlightened the members to choose from the variety of skills provided by the NYSC Scheme through the SAED programme.

He reminded the corps members to adhere strictly to the established NCDC protocols of physical distancing, wearing of face mask and regular hand washing as the fight against COVID-19 is not over yet. He also implored them to be vaccinated against the virus if they are yet to do so. 

The Director-General implored the members to maintain a high level of discipline and ensure to abstain from  social vices such as; Cultism, drug abuse and cybercrime. Y

He also said the Corps members should avoid using the social media negatively. He said on no account should their social media space be used to spread fake news, hatred and religious bigotry but to use it as a tool to promote unity and development in the nation.

He stressed on the need for the members to be security conscious and to report any suspicious Character or activities around them to appropriate authorities.

Brig. Gen. Fadah reminded the Corps members of the National Pledge and the NYSC Oath of Allegiance taken during their Swearing-in ceremony as it is expected to guide and shape their conduct and character during the Service year. 

Furthermore, he urged them to familiarize themselves with the NYSC Act and Bye-laws as it contains information and guidelines for a successful Service year.

A total of 1553 PCMs comprising of 735 Males and 818 Females were sworn-in by the representative of the Osun State Chief, Hon. Justice Adedapo Olugbenga Adeniji.
