The Director, General Services, NYSC, Mr Emmanuel Attah has called on corps members deployed to Osun State for the 2021 Batch C Stream II service year and those dislodged from Lagos State to use their service year to promote the country.
Attah made this known while addressing the corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Monday. He stated that the time has come for the youths to start projecting the country positively in their words, conduct, choices and also through the social media.
The Director General Services congratulated the members for availing themselves to serve their fatherland and urged them to ensure they justify the Scheme's faith in their mobilisation for the one year mandatory service to the nation.
Attah charged the corps members to leverage on the platform of the NYSC to discover their God given talents and develop it to the best of their abilities using it for the betterment of humanity and development of the nation. Speaking further, he enjoined them to embrace the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme in order to acquire skills capable of making them self reliant, relevant and valuable in the global market.
"The SAED programme since inception has succeeded in empowering graduate youths in acquiring skills of their choice and has further provided funding options through which corps members have been able to start up their businesses.
" I want you in spite of your academic qualifications and certification to embrace skill acquisition as a way to beat the hydraheaded monster of unemployment and underemployment.
" The Director General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim is passionate about the welfare of corps members and their after service life. That is why the Scheme is working assiduously to ensure her members fare well during and after the service year. Aside the SAED program, the Director General is strongly advocating for a trust fund to further empower corps members to become self reliant after the service year", he said.
Attah admonished the members to be security conscious and always ensure they do not walk alone. He urged them to be sensitive to their environment and always be wary of actions and activities capable of jeopardising their security in their host communities.
He charged them to desist from vices and meddling with things that could put them in harms way. Attah warned the corps members against embarking on unauthorised or night journeys. He stated that if they must travel they must obtain permission from the ight authority before embarking on such journeys.
Speaking on their health, Attah advised the corps members to take their health seriously and always avail themselves of the services of the medical team to check their vitals regularly. He enlightened them on the need to live healthy and indulge in healthy habits.
"it is alarming the rate at which youths are developing high blood pressure, this ought not to be. Therefore, you need to watch what you do and how you live your life in order to enjoy a healthy life.
" do not be anxious about the future and do not be in a hurry to make it big. Learn to live life one step at a time. Do not cut corners nor indulge in vices to get rich but embrace hard work, industry, patience and optimism. These virtues never fail", he added.
Earlier, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka appreciated the Director General Services for deeming it fit to visit at the ongoing orientation course.
In her brief, she apprised the Director of the comportment of the corps members describing them as disciplined and well behaved. She also informed him of the various selfless service the corps members have engaged in since they came to the camp.
She informed Mr Attah that the members especially those in the male hostel have been motivated by the good works of their predecessors and have committed themselves to beautifying their rooms and hostels by painting them and also decorating the rooms for the yuletide period.
She further assured the Director of her resolve to continue to build on the good legacies he and her predecessor left in the State and assured that the hostel Construction initiated by the Director when he was the State Coordinator will by God's grace be completed during her tenure.
She further appreciated the Director for always supporting the State in the achievement of the objectives and goals of the Scheme.
Attah, upon hearing of the feats of male corps members especially in block F gifted the members a sum of 100,000 naira as a compensation for maintaining neatness and orderliness in their hostel. He enjoined other corps members to follow suit and to always think of positive ways they can contribute to the development of their immediate environment and the nation at large.
The corps camp directors presented a gift to the Director, General Services on behalf of the corps members to appreciate his fatherly advice and expressive love to the Batch C stream II corps members.
Highlights of the visit include a meeting with NYSC officials where the Director charged them to up their games in other to continue to deliver on the mandate of the Scheme.
