MRS ADENLE TEACHES CORPS MEMBERS YORUBA LANGUAGE

Mrs Adenle Caroline, the Head of Savicom and Gender on camp, has on Monday taught the Batch C Stream II corps members the Yoruba language.

Adenle while teaching the members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede  highlighted the basic Yoruba words that are paramount for easy communication.

She told the corps members that Yoruba culture requires respect from the younger ones to the elderly.  "You do not say 'kaaro' when greeting an older person, you say 'ekaaro’, as it indicates respect”, she stated.

She told the corps members that the Yoruba culture further demands respect for the elderly from younger ones not only in words but also in action, "as a lady, you kneel down, as a man you prostrate while greeting an elderly person", she added.

She drew the attention of the corps members to the  different time of the day and the different greetings for these times and their meaning in the Yoruba language.

Conclusively, she taught the corps members numbers, simple sentences and market discussions that will assist them in relating and communicating effectively in their various places of primary assignment and their immediate environment.
