DG NYSC ADMONISHES CORPS MEMBERS TO STRICTLY ADHERE TO ALL THEY HAVE BEEN TAUGHT

The Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim has advised the 2021 Batch C Stream II corps members to adhere strictly to all they've been taught throughout the three weeks Orientation Course.

He started out by enlightening the corps members in a virtual address on Monday, on the need for strict adherence to what they have learnt from the camping experience, as it will be worth their while, and to see the NYSC scheme as a platform.

"Let the spirit of the camp be in you, you've been disciplined and built up with tolerance and perseverance, let the training reflect throughout your service year" he added.

He mentioned that the corps members should be security conscious especially during this festive season, he urged them not to embark on journeys as late as 6pm and to travel in groups.

"Find where corps members are and stay there if the journey extends till evening, follow designated bus parks, don't wear your NYSC kit and stay by the roadside. Be security conscious" he continued.

He advised them to ensure that the vehicles they are boarding are in good working condition as well as the driver, should be in a sober mood.

He encouraged them to put in their best at their various places of primary assignment and to show patriotism and responsibility to their corps employers.

He told them to follow the laid down rules at their PPA, as they are also members of staff and are liable to any repercussions from flaunting the rules.

“Don’t tarnish yourself, your parents, your institution, and the image of the NYSC Scheme.” He added.

Speaking on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development,  the Director General charged the corps members to take great advantage of the post camp trainings as they could benefit so much from them. He urged them to leverage on the various platforms and opportunities.

"Your BSc doesn't stop you from acquiring a skill" he added as he stated that the Scheme is  working round the clock to ensure that the proposed NYSC Trust Fund intended to empower corps members with the needed fund to start up their business, becomes a reality.

He announced the upcoming SAED festival to them, which is slated for 14th - 17th of December, with participation from financial institutions like Access Bank, Unity Bank, BOI, BOA, amongst others.

Speaking on Community Development Service, he admonished them to look out for particular problems in their communities and find ways of solving them within the spelt out regulations and procedures of the NYSC. He stated also that the CDS projects can be carried out either in groups or individually depending on the identified problem which the corps members intend to solve.

"Don't borrow money but rather meet with community leaders and youths for financial support" he advised.

He further urged them to shun criminality and vices, such as cybercrime, drug abuse, political violence, armed robbery, and more.

He intimated them on the use of social media to spread unity and national integration rather than fake news and fear, assuring them that offenders will be punished appropriately.

He enlightened them on the various NYSC platforms and told them to visit these platforms to get clarifications on issues pertaining to NYSC.

The Director General emphasised on the need for the corps members to get vaccinated against the COVID-19. He informed them that as from the next camp, PCMs must show proof of vaccination before being let into the camp.

As he concluded, he thanked the Federal government, NYSC officials and all collaborating agencies for their cooperation throughout the orientation exercise.

He advised the corps members to be committed, disciplined so as to look back and be proud when they are done.

He wished them a happy Christmas and New year in advance.
