NYSC IS A FRIENDLY PARTNER - Director DSS
The Director Department of State Service, Osun State Command, Mr Bankole Aládé has described the NYSC as a friendly partner and a very good Scheme that has afforded a lot of graduate youths the privilege of meeting and knowing places, people and cultures other than theirs. He described this as one of the beautiful things about the Scheme.
He recalled and shared wonderful experiences of his service year in the former Gongola State now Adamawa State with the Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka during her visit to his office in Osogbo on Monday.
He lauded and appreciated the management of the Scheme for making the 48-year old scheme as relevant as ever. The Scheme has afforded him and many other Nigerians who have passed through her the privilege of forging lifelong relationships, knowing States other than that of their State of Origin, among others.
" I served in former Gongola State, now Adamawa, I have never been to that part of the country, but NYSC took me there. The experience was wonderful.
" years after joining the DSS, I was transferred to Adamawa again, it was like homecoming for me having done my youth service there" he said.
The Director expressed gratitude for the familiarisation visit, "NYSC is a friendly Scheme to the Department of State Service and therefore holds a special place in the Command", he added.
He continued by saying that the DSS will not shy away from its responsibility of protecting the members of the Corps. According to him, the Command will do anything possible to partner, support and make the State safe for all corps members.
"The NYSC should see this office as theirs, We all passed through the scheme and our children are in the Scheme as well, hence our support is nonnegotiable. Our door is ever open, feel free to contact us whenever you need us", he stated.
He assured Shokpeka that his men will continue to partner with other security agencies in monitoring corps lodges in all the thirty local government areas to guarantee the safety of Corps members in the State.
Earlier, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator Mrs Winfred Shokpeka, has expressed her sincere gratitude to Mr. Bankole Alade for his undaunted support for the NYSC in the State. Speaking on the purpose of her visit to the Command, Shokpeka said that the visit was intended to cement the cordial relationship that existed between the two organisations.
She added that Corps members are duly trained to serve in any capacity they are called upon. " We have a pool of Corps Members ready to serve in whatever Capacity. There is no field of specialisation that is not found in the scheme", she assured the Director while expressing the commitment and willingness of the members of the Scheme to render selfless service in the State.
She thereafter presented publications of the Scheme to the Director.
