ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE MUST BE DISCOURAGED- CHIEF ALONGE

The Director Procurement Chief (Evang.) Gabriel Ojo Alonge(rtd) has charged the 2021 Batch A stream II corps members to discourage all forms of ethnic and religious intolerance in the nation  in order to promote unity among Nigerians.

He said this during the motivational lecture at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede, on Wednesday. He admonished them to do all they can to promote unity in the country.

According to him one of the best way to ensure unity is through the establishment of the NYSC which has impacted lives across the 48years of its existence and as such scrapping the NYSC scheme will be very dangerous.

He added that youths will experience great suffering if the scheme is scrapped as they will not have the opportunity to meet a whole number of people from different ethnic groups which enables one develop the spirit of oneness.

He further stated that it will be a dangerous venture to launch out fresh graduates into the larger society and world of work without the prerequisite training needed for them to be patriotic, skillful and employable.

He also stated that the scheme affords graduates the basic work experience required by employers of labour at entry level which according to him will be lacking should the scheme be scraped.

Alonge also said that the scheme has over the years brought about a free flow of labour across the States of the federation and FCT. This he said would be nearly impossible without the scheme as some States would have been deprived of the expertise and skillfulness of graduate youths in the nation.

In the same vein, he urged corps members to avoid the dissemination of false information as it is capable of causing mayhem in the society. He advised them to among others,  lead  exemplary lives, be active and impactful in their respective places of assignments, be loyal to the country and the scheme and be team players. He stressed that the strict adherence to these virtues is a sure way to success.

Chief Gabriel who started by congratulating all Corps members on the successful completion of their tertiary programs which qualified them for the NYSC orientation exercise urged them not to be perturbed about the ongoing news that NYSC will be scrapped.

However, he said that one of the major things that can bring them down is division. He therefore charged them to steer clear of ethnic, religious and political intolerance because they breed division and Corps members as agents of unity and integration should not engage in nor encourage such.

He concluded by telling them to always pray and commit their ways to God because his love is endless.
