WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN POLITICS - MRS SALAWU

The NYSC Osun State Desk Officer, Mrs Salawu Kehinde has said that more women are needed in the Nigerian Political sphere to encourage the spirit of fair competition.

She made this statement while addressing corps members at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp on Monday, where she highlighted the imbalance in the number of women to men in politics.

According to her, gender stereotyping shouldn't be accepted in any sector, but rather individuals should be given opportunity to uphold positions of any kind irrespective of their gender.

However, she said women are shying away from top positions due to the way the society feels about them been at the top. She urged women to stand tall and demand for their rights. She also said, women should aspire to become political leaders, organizational leaders and great individuals.

She emplored the males Corps Members to encourage their female counterparts to become better persons at home rather than been domineering or wanting them to be at lower positions or seeing them as sex tools.

Additionally, she spoke on the need to eradicate child labour in the community as this prevents children from fulfilling their dreams.

Again, she stated that females shouldn't be discriminated or treated unfairly as they are mostly treated but all gender should be treated with equity as each gender has a positive role to play in the development of the nation.

In concluding her address, She frowned at the increased rate of female molestation in the country and urged men to desist from such act, ensure their community is free from all forms of sexual harassment and ensure female genital mutilation is eradicated. Mrs Salawu stated that if gender equity is embraced in the country, there will be an improvement in national development.
