Royal Father Enlightens Corps Members On The Rich Cultural Heritage of the Yorubas

The Mayegun of Olupona land, Chief Ayoade Adufe Ojetaye has on Monday enlightened the 2021 Batch A Stream II  corps members on the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

In his lecture at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp,  Ede, he recognised the fact that hundreds of corps members from different states and tribes have been deployed to Osun state, thus the need for them to get familiarised with the people, language and culture of their host communities.

Chief Ayoade addressed sectors of the Yoruba tradition as it relates to the origin, location, religion, dialects, afterlife, naming ceremonies, weddings music, tribal marks, identity, dressing, laws, food and taboos.

Speaking further, he mentioned some taboos of the Yoruba people and advised corps members to steer clear of them. He pleaded with the female corps members to abide with the rules of the communities were they will be posted to and ensure they stay indoors during festivals where women are not allowed to go out. Such festivals, according to Chief Ayoade, is called 'Oro' in Yorubaland.

He ended by urging non-Yoruba indigenes to embrace the tradition of the Yorubas with open minds and be willing to mingle and live in peace and harmony with every one.
