THE CALL FOR JUSTICE IN AN UNJUST SOCIETY By ABIONA OLUWAKEMI OLOLADE
It took me days to get the balance of myself. I was distrait for days
feeling rapt, but the rate at which my mind was dishing out the callous deeds
of man got the tears left with no choice than to just keep rolling out.
I spent all my years believing that
Justice would be served right, but I was wrong, I grew up in a society where
Justice is only polished and sheen on the lips of man but never had its full
autonomy. I'm flattened by doubt and living in a world of uncertainty. I threw
a question at myself; 'Will things really get better?' but it
seems it never does. The unruly and misdeeds of the people keep roaring. Fear
has always been an option for the young girls in the society trembling in fear
of not having full autonomy over their body.
I ask myself, is the society still a
full democracy if fear is in the air for a citizen's breath?
Day in day out, the act of unfairness
keeps persisting and I stumbled on the thought and merely looking at the
economy involving the state's failure to provide individuals with basic
necessities of life, giving access to adequate food, housing and its
maintenance of huge discrepancies in wealth in most extreme cases of
maldistribution, some individuals suffering from poverty while the elite in the
society are living in relative luxury, a society where those in power are
willing to get more for their selfish interest, embezzlement has been the juice
they sip.
To add, the legal institutions fail to
protect individual's fundamental rights and liberties in which violence is an
ineffective way of addressing injustice but used by many as last resort when
those in authorities fail. Again, the rate at which crime keeps increasing is
alarming, those who're supposed to be protecting the lives of the citizens are
the ones taking them. The society keeps looking scarier every day and many
expecting mothers are afraid of raising their child in this cruel society.
Injustice becomes the domain of the
state at which there is seizure in the peace of mind of many, robbery became so
rampant that most homes have become insecure to live in.
Hmmm!
In a society where good morals dwell
before, where peace of mind was a free gift given to the people. Really! What
has gone wrong?
Rape has now become a fashion for both
old and young men while self-defence has been the training given to the girl
child. What more can be said, the scarcity of justice in the society has a
matter of fact increased the threat and danger of crimes and violence coupled with
the fact, quality education from schools is expensive to get.
Many graduates are going through the
struggle of gaining admissions into the higher institution of their own choice
and with the hope that after finishing, the struggle they went through will
bring good fortune to them at the end but eventually, they're left in shock of
no availabilities of jobs. This alone lure many younger generations losing hope
in the vision of the society all they breathe out is hate for the society.
I ask myself, should this still
continue? Hell No!
Society can’t continue to live in pain!
The society need not to fold hands and just wait on God alone. Our dreams as a
great nation shouldn’t be terminated if our norms, obligations, values, rights
and entitlement even our responsibilities and duties shaping our sense of
justice and aren't determined by the corrupt leaders.
We all need not to wait anymore. Our
voice must be heard in the call for justice. Let's check a society where peace
dwells, the call for justice is enforced at its peak. Such a society is led by
a government that have the masses at its best interest.
If our society is fairly ruled, the rights and the rule of law will be carefully followed and implemented to the fullest. There would be changes in the reduction of crimes, accessible quality education and health care of the people, empowerment for the youths and employment opportunities being made available, genuine transparency and accountability becoming a culture, competent and reliable leaders et cetera, then the act of injustice will be subdued. Many things have been all in my thoughts for days but the call for justice is needed in our society today.
