"We Need More Protection For Increasing Population of Corps Members" - NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that the scheme needs more security for corps members posted across the country.

The Director NYSC,  South West Area office, Mr Emmanuel Attah said this during a courtesy visit to Commissioner of Police, Osun State, Mr Johnson Kokumo on Friday.

Mr Attah who led other officials of the scheme to Osun Police Command, said the visitation become necessary because of the ever-increasing numbers of corps members across the country.

He hinted that NYSC has decentralized its operation because of the ever-increasing corps population saying that there is needs to monitor and supervise their activities.

"Currently, we mobilise over 350,000 corps members and we must look after them to ensure that they are safe and not playing truancy at their Place of Primary Assignment. We need more security for them from the police.

"We greatly care for our corps members and  I enjoin the police to continue ensuring the safety of lives and properties of our corps members and staff alike.

"We have cases where a corps member is assaulted and robbed among others. We urge you to further protect them from all these social vices. The Director also called on the police to tap from the abundant talent of the corps members as exhibited during this pandemic period."

Responding to Attah, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Babatunde, vowed that the police will ensure the safety of corps members and continue to maintain good relations with the scheme.

He also advised the scheme to ensure those corps members that are posted to organizations are not used for cheap labour.
