BEHOLD THE DAWN OF A NEW PHASE
Life is in phases and every new phase requires a new set of mindsets, approaches, priorities, beliefs and behaviors. Our society seem to have indoctrinated many of us into embracing transition ceremonially. We basically mark the end of a phase and the beginning of a new one by organizing parties, sharing gifts, sending congratulatory messages etc. Although there is nothing wrong with this, however, it is very dangerous and misleading to believe that this is all it entails to transit into a new phase. The most vital and often overlooked part of every good transitional process is our mental reorientation.
Like I hinted earlier, a new phase requires a psychological shift in perspectives, priorities, approach and behavior. I am presently a serving corps member and I can't believe how clueless I've been in these past few months. As a student, I was a dependent consumer who only needed to put a distress call to my family and they would respond swiftly. Now, all that has changed. Now, amidst many other unusual developments, I have been compelled by my new phase to assume some level of responsibility at the family front. It is on account of this new reality that I decided to write this post to my fellow corp members. I know you can't shake off the environmental conditioning of 4 to 6yr of school life in an instant, but you have to start somewhere, and there is no better time to do that than now. That seemingly distant FUTURE that our teachers and mentors have always told us about since our school days, is now upon us. We can either embrace it proactively or reactively, the choice is ours is to make. Embracing it proactively begins with unlearning many of the mindsets and behaviors that seemed normal in our previous phase. mindsets like; spending all that we earn, an attitude of dependency and irresponsibility over our lives and environments etc. This is GIVE BACK TIME. Our families and loved ones need us, our Nation needs us and most importantly, GOD needs us. Don't you think we have come too far to fail them? Oh! Yes I think we have. Embrace your new phase, graduate fully, take up the baton and begin your race. SEE YOU ALL AT THE TOP!.
