*Disaster Management Is Not A Solo Business, Hence The Collaboration With The NYSC Scheme* - Abolarin
The Head of Unit, Research and Rescue, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Abolarin Ayo apprised corps members on the roles and responsibilities of the organisation.
He enlightened corps members on how to manage disaster occurrences, stressing the need for a collaboration with the NYSC scheme, according to him, "corps members are found in every Local Government Area in the country". This fact makes it easier for the agency to sensitize, enlighten, inform, and create awareness at the local level.
Mr Abolarin charged corps members to embrace being trained, as trained members become 'Initial Response Agent Experts', where they will be able to identify impending hazards peculiar to their environment. Also, he advised corps members to be careful, according to him, "first be prepared to protect yourself in a situation of disaster".
Further more, he highlighted key responsibilities of the agency, some of which includes; Pre and Post disaster responses, distribution of relief materials to victims, collection of aids from international and local responses, amongst others.
On a final note, he accentuated the reason the agency was established, which is to build a culture of preparedness, prevention and response to disasters.
