HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER ASSURES NYSC OF MAXIMUM SUPPORT TO THE SCHEME.
The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Sports, State of Osun,Who doubles as the Chairman NYSC State Governing Board, Hon. Lawal Azeez Olayemi has assured NYSC in the State of his maximum support and assistance throughout his tenure as Chairman of the scheme 's State Governing Board.
He gave the assurance when he played host to the State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke and some of the management staff of the scheme in his office at the State Secretariat, Osogbo on Monday 5th November, 2019.
Hon. Lawal appreciated the team led by the former Acting Chairman of the Board and Coordinating Director of the Ministry Dr Olatunbosun Awoyemi for the job well done,while he was holding forth .
Hon. Lawal further assured the scheme of his support in pushing forward matters of the scheme before Mr Governor at every given opportunity. According to him " I understand the pressure on the staffers of the scheme to ensure the welfare of corps members in the State. I
am a chief servant sent to represent the interest of Mr Governor in the ministry but I assure you, being a youth myself who passed through the scheme years ago, that I will continue to mount pressure on the government to make them see reasons why matters of the scheme should be prioritised" he said.
He also promised paying regular visits to the orientation camp to inspect camp facilities which according to him will be a move towards the sustainability of government structures.
Speaking on the welfare of corps members in the State, Olayemi promised looking into the NYSC ACT to ascertain what the government is responsible for and how, in order to guide and advise accordingly. He hinted that the board will also look into the ways government can assist in the healthcare of corps members serving in the State.
Speaking earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke had appreciated the ministry for always being there for corps members in the State. He further commended the government for the regular payment of #5000 naira allowance to corps members serving in the State's schools and ministries, and for sending a delegation to the meeting with the scheme's top management in Abuja recently.
Adegoke felicitated with Hon. Lawal on his recent appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for the ministry which according to him is a "blessing" to the scheme at a time like this. He, thereafter, used the medium to call the attention of the Hon. Commissioner to the provisions of the NYSC ACT, such as section 6 and 7 which stipulates the need for the establishment of the state governing board and the responsibilities of the board and the government in the achievement of the scheme's objectives in the state.
Reiterating the challenges facing the scheme in the state, Adegoke craved the timely intervention of Mr Chairman in pushing forward the scheme's request for a befitting state secretariat and the rehabilitation of delapidating structures at the permanent orientation camp in Ede and the payment of state subvention to the scheme by the government.
