STOP HIV, STOP STIGMA - Red cross CDS Storms the street.
The Red Cross society CDS group of Osogbo Local Government Area, as part of their community development service, has carried out an intense sensitization outreach in a bid to reawaken public awareness concerning HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases on the 29th of August,2019.
The sensitization which commenced with a rally along the streets of the olurunda local Government in Osun state, witnessed the members of the CDS group, showcasing placards, posters and banners with various inscriptions written to drive down their message as they sang and made announcements to compel people to join them at Freedom pack, Olaiya which was the main venue of the event.
Conducting free HIV test which had great turn up and giving of free male and female condoms was the highlight of the outreach.
The CDS President, Zubair Abdulkareem, while speaking with the News Correspondent said "Some people live with HIV and areunaware" "many are scared of taking the test whilst being ignorant of the fact that "HIV positive" is not the end of life, rather, early diagnosis can prevent it's degeneration to AIDS"
He also added that HIV, as well as other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, can be prevented with the use of condoms as it does not only prevent unwanted pregnancy but boosts one's confidence and ensures safety.
Rachel Olawale, the Financial Secretary of the group, in her statement, lauded the Government Hospital for their supportive gestures, revealing that the CDS got two full packs of condoms and 10 packs of HIV testing kits from the government hospital which contributed to a great extent in the success of the outreach.
The free HIV test and distributions have strictly for Corp members been slated to continue on Tuesday 3rd September at the olurunda Local Governmentt Secretariat.
