ZARIA CITY COMES TO STAND STILL AS VICE PRESIDENT VISITS FAMILY OF SLAIN CORPS MEMBER
Sunday the 28th day of July 2019 was very historic in the life of Zaria city of Kaduna state as Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo visited the family of Mr. Ayo A. Owolabi to deliver a condolence message, over the loss of Precious Owolabi Ayo.
The Vice President who was accompanied by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state landed from a chopper at Aviation College, Zaria to the receiving arms of the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shaubu Ibrahim, and there- after proceeded to Owolabi's compound a stone-throw away.
During his brief interface with the parents and siblings of the late theatre artist, who was shot by a stray bullet around Federal Secretariat in Abuja on Monday last week, while coveting a protest by Islamic Movement of Nigeria. The academician cum politician said the whole country was sad over the death of Precious Owolabi Ayo.
He described the ugly incident as a bitter lesson that has made it imperative for employers to provide adequate for Corps members and other employees who are assigned to carry out assignments under hazardous circumstances. He stated young Precious will for ever be remembered as a hero who paid the supreme sacrifice in the service of the fatherland.
He consoled the family on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire nation, and pledged that government at all levels will henceforth put in place more safety measures at workplaces and residences Corps members of all over the country, to prevent a reoccurrence.
Earlier, in the day, the honourable minister of the Federal Capital Territory, represented by the Director of Finance was at Mr. Owolabi's residence in company of the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Hajuya Walida Isa Saddique, where she presented a letter of condolence to the bereaved family.
