COMMANDER ECC DESCRIBES NYSC AS A NATIONAL COMMITTMENT; CRAVES THE CREATION OF QUICK IMPACT PROJECT FUNDS FOR CORPS MEMBERS

The commander of the Engineer Construction Command,  Nigeria Army, Ede, Brig. Gen. A.O. Agboola has entreated the scheme to set up a quick impact project funding for corps members who have important projects to execute in the development of their host communities.
The suggestion was made to the State Coordinator, Mr. Adewale Adegoke during his courtesy visit to the Engineering Construction Command, Ede on Monday, 29th July, 2019. In his view, the commander said "I suggest the government through the scheme carves out a quick impact project fund as a part of it's budget for corps members who have important projects to execute.
." This is because, overtime, majority of corps members have identified the needs of their host communities and have shown a great deal of zeal towards solving this problem by sourcing for funds which doesn't seem to yield much results, thereby leaving them discouraged.
"I would be pleased if this appeal could be pushed to the national and state level if possible" he further stated.

Speaking earlier, the State coordinator commended the efforts of the command in the release of able officers  for the care, coordination and training of corps members during the orientation course. He appreciated and commended the synergy between the command and the scheme under his predecessor and craved for the relationship to continued.

Speaking further, Adegoke reacted to the Commander's request for a quick impact project fund for corps members by highlighting  the essence of the community development service and the importance of training corps members to exhibit leadership qualities by mobilising the people of their host community towards taking part in the development of the community. He further added that the CDS was a way of training corps members who are the future of the nation to be selfless by giving back to the society.

Adegoke, thereafter, requested for the release of a band major from the command in the training of corps members in the band group for ceremonies during the orientation course. The commander who was appreciative of the courtesy visit initiative said  " The scheme is a national commitment. This is why we go out of our way to support and partake in matters of the scheme even when it's not official.

Recently, the State Government, due to the rise in insecurities in the state, intervened and secured authorities to recruit officers to support the scheme thereby making it a responsibility of the State. He further said  " we would continue to support you, so feel free to ask anything of us and if it's beyond our capacity, we would reach out to other units to ensure your needs are met." We are not resting, we are working on making the command a better working environment and we have shared ideas of security that needs to be done" he said.
