800+ SECONDARY SCHOOL FEMALE STUDENTS APPRISED ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE

Following the celebration of the World's International Menstruation and Hygiene Day which took place on Tuesday, 28th of May 2019, board members of the Editorial Community Development Service, NYSC, Oshogbo, Osun State visited two major schools in Osogbo namely St. Marks Anglican High School and St. James School to sensitize the girls about their menstrual hygiene and also give free sanitary pads to each of them.

The programme which was themed 'One Girl One Pad' took place on Thursday, 30th of May 2019 with Pharmacist Morenikeji Aruna apprising the female students on menstrual hygiene, after which sanitary pads were distributed to over 800 female students.

Miss Morenikeji strongly advised the students to be very careful with the opposite sex as having menstrual flow confirms their ability to become pregnant. "The first thing to menstrual hygiene is understanding oneself, whether it is a heavy flow or light one as this would help you to know the number of pads you are to use in a day" She said.

Other menstrual hygiene tips enumerated by her were; taking regular bathe at least two to three times daily, proper disposal of used menstrual pads, washing of hands regularly to prevent infections, and the constant use of disinfectants for the hands and underwear. She further advised the students to abstain from activities which could lead to premarital sex thereby having an unwanted child as this could hinder them from attaining their dreams.
