CORPS MEMBERS EXPRESS MIXED REACTIONS TO RESCUE CAPACITY OF NYSC ID CARDS FROM SARS

It was an expressive moment today at the editorial board CDS as members of the board voiced out their thoughts on the place of the NYSC ID in rescuing corps members from the hands of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The on-the-spot discussion which was led by the Ajuwaya presenter, Oke Pelumi took place in the course of the board meeting held at the NYSC Secretariat in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
According to Imafidon Godwin, having the NYSC ID on will help reduce the extent at which SARS officials put pressure on a corps member, he added that being disobedient or involving in heated argument with the SARS officials only cause them to treat such individual harshly.

On his own part, Akinbode Toluleke stated that apart from having a means of identification, having a high social media presence also gives a corps member a better chance in the hands of SARS as it makes them treat the individual with caution.

However,  Chidi Nonso was of a different thought as he asserted that having the NYSC ID on might not save a corps member from the brutality of SARS officials. He said the officials only find all means to extort cash or kind from an individual and do not mind if an ID is made available. He then urged corps members to ensue that they are free of any incriminating material as that is their first rescue window.

Overtime, there have been stories of youths being harassed by SARS officials claiming they dress or look like internet fraudsters otherwise known as Yahoo Boys. Some have been extorted of cash and kind while some have been ruthlessly beaten.

While a few of these youths are found guilty, majority of them turn out to be innocent victims in the hands of these officials and these has left people with a lot of unanswered questions.
