The relevance of Community development as a tool in NYSC.

The relevance of Community development as a tool in NYSC.

The National youth service corp which is a mandatory act of humanitarian service to our country Nigeria has being in existence since times immemorial(22nd May1973) with four Cardinals spell out as follows :
Orientation, PPA, CDS and the  Passing out parade

All these are steps that each corp member is expected to pass through before being awarded a certificate of completion which is the last phase of the four major Cardinal point of the NYSC.

The third Cardinal point of the NYSC Community Development Service is one of the relevant goals that each corp member is expected to partake in before the end of their service year.
The CDS which is handled by a Director has set goals and objectives which boils down to the sole aim of making the host community a better place than the city member met it.
Each corp member is expected to be part of a cds group which numbers up to about 14, with a day dedicated for the members to meet and discuss how they'll affect their community positively. A corp member cannot join two CDS group but can still carry out individual CDS.
Ever since it's inception the Community  Development Service has being meeting up to expectations for the reason of its creation. Yielding positive results all over from various communities where corp members are serving which tends to pose it as a relevant tool in the NYSC scheme.
With the proves of various activities carried out by corp members both individuals and corporately has further proven the relevance of community development service.

Various humanitarian service ranging from the building of classroom blocks, building of public toilets, provisions of borehole for communities in dear need of it and other acts of selflessness has further buttressed the the importance of cds as a relevant tool in NYSC.
The aim of the creation of this third Cardinal of NYSC has therefore proven relevant and an indispensable tool in the scheme.
Also taking a critical  look at other activities done at various CDS groups it will be deduced that various sensitizations have being carried out that has actually benefited the host community.
Taking the INEC cds as an example with the forth coming elections in the country the cds has taken it upon itself to sensitize the public about the importance of voting and doing away it all forms of electoral offences capable of landing them in jail. This happens to be just one of the activity that is carried out by a CDS group.
Definitely the CDS has proven it's undeniable relevance and should therefore be treated with all form of seriousness so as to achieve the goal of making the host community better than it was met.
