ATTAH TO CORPS MEMBERS: THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA IS IN YOUR HANDS

The coordinator of National Youth Service
Corps (NYSC) Osun State chapter, Mr
Danjuma Attah, has warned corps members
to shun any form of electoral malpractice or misconduct, as anyone caught will
be prosecuted be deprived of the Nysc
certificate.
Mr Danjuma gave the warning during
his visit at Olorunda local government.
While addressing the corps
members,Attah state that on no account should corps members accept any item
from politicians, strangers and members of the public.
He said items taking by members of
the scheme will be seen as inducement by electorates which will not project the
image Nysc.
“The
NYSC has collaborated well with INEC, and conducted successful elections in the
past, and this time around we are ready to conduct a successful exercise. so I
plead with you not to destroy the reputation of NYSC, anyone caught will be
prosecuted.
"You are expected to be
neutral, whether your father or your uncle is a candidate of any of the
political parties; the moment you are on this uniform you have no business with
them. They are unknown to you. Do not accept money from anyone or do anything
in favour of any political party."
Mr Danjuma stated that corps
members should ensure safety first during the polls,
He said: "Your Identity cards
must be on you.Ensure your phones are recharged with enough airtime; be armed
with pocket notes and have the phone numbers of your local government
inspectors and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). We assure you that your
safety is ensured.
He added"Peradventure there
is any problem, protect yourself first and report to the nearest police
station.
"The security operatives will
all be deployed during the exercise.
"Never drag anything with
anybody. Any corps member that violates the law having been warned, would be
prosecuted."
He noted that, during the
discharge of duties at the polls, no corps member should go home with any
election materials, even in the cause of violence.
The state coordinator charged that members of
the scheme should exhibit high level of
discipline and endeavor to participate fully in NYSC activities.
Attah stated that corps members
should ensure proper dressing and shun any act of violence and misbehaviour in
discharge of duties at their primary assignments.
He also urged them to carry out
community development services in the state which is one of the cardinal
objectives of the scheme.
The Nysc boss in the state,
encouraged that corps members should not forsake personal projects in the
various communities they are posted, as
he has so far seen few files on his desk as regarding personal projects.
He
said, corps members should ensure full participation in U-report scheme.
