SHOKPEKA COMMENDS CORPS MEMBERS FOR EXHIBITING PATRIOTIC QUALITIES

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has commended the 2022 Batch A Stream II corps members deployed to Osun State and those dislodged from Lagos State for exhibiting patriotic qualities during the Orientation Course. She stated that the corps members despite their differing backgrounds, ethnic and ideological inclinations displayed qualities of love, tolérance and oneness throughout the duration of the Orientation Course.

This, according to her, is true patriotism. Shokpeka said this while debriefing the corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Wednesday.

She started off by acknowledging that every beautiful thing has an end. She congratulated them on their excellent conduct during the Orientation Course and reminded them to take responsibility for their lives on a daily basis and be their best in everything they do.

She charged them to live harmoniously with the people of their host communities as they had done with one another during the 3-week Orientation. She said that throughout the duration of the program, she had no cause to settle rifts among corps members in the hostels which is a reflection of how well they have been able to integrate.

She reminded them of the need to show diligence and step down every training they had acquired during the Orientation. She emphasised on the importance of leveraging on the knowledge gained during the Emotional Intelligence, Nutrition sensitisation and other lectures to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle throughout the service year. She added that they should teach the younger generation and their host communities how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The State Coordinator went on to give the corps members a rundown of post-camp processes and activities, right from reporting to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) to the monthly clearance procedures.

She also advised them on how to comport themselves both in official and non-official jurisdictions during their service year. She spoke to the corps members on matters of travel, personal safety, work and output, documentation and other important issues, encouraging them to put in their best and always be accountable in every activity during the course of their service.

She urged them to take their primary assignment and community development service group meetings seriously and make sure they document their attendance there every week. She reminded them that regular inspections would be carried out by the Scheme's management and therefore they should settle down to business.

She cautioned the members against embarking on unauthorised journeys or absconding from their places of primary assignment as this attracts punishment and can bring about a repeat or extension of service.

Shokpeka thanked all the camp officials for their tireless service and contributory efforts to the success of the Orientation programme.

Highlights of the debriefing include the recognition of meritorious corps members who displayed laudable qualities during the Orientation programme. A number of them were presented with commendation letters by the State Coordinator, also zonal and local government inspectors were introduced to the corps members by the Head of Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mr Alo Emmanuel.
