Digital Illiteracy
Literacy is defined as the ability to read and write. Digital literacy is said to be the ability of an individual to find, evaluate and clearly communicate information through the use of digital platforms and devices. The ability to be digitally literate is becoming very important in the world as we know it.
In the year 1965 for instance, the base requirements for having a white collar career was the ability to read and write. Since we transitioned into the information age, more people have access to basic literacy and by proxy, the bar for having a white collar job has gone up. Now, being able to read and write is quite simply, not enough. Employees need to be able to create and edit word documents, find information on the internet and be able to send emails.
Any individual who is not digital literate is simply going to be at a disadvantage in the labour market. New technology is being developed at a rapid rate and information is spread and becomes obsolete very quickly. For someone to be digitally literate, they need to be able to learn how to learn fast.
In conclusion, it is important for people to be digitally literate in this day and age.
