SHOKPEKA ELABORATES ON THE SCHEME'S OBJECTIVES

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Ngozi Shokpeka has elaborated more on the aims and objectives of the NYSC Scheme.

She made this known while granting an interview on a Television programme 'Corpers Hangout'Channel 24 Freedom station on Friday, January 14, 2022.

While narrating her experiences so far on the objectives of the NYSC scheme, the NYSC boss stated that the scheme is an expedition that God is taking corps members through. She explained that the scheme is laced with lifelong and lasting survival skills.

"Those who truly commit themselves to the scheme are guaranteed to become better individuals", she added.

She continued by saying that, among many things, NYSC teaches corps members  is to be prudent in their expenditure, develop their business ideas, and equips them with the basic skills to start one.

"It makes them cut down on their excesses, which is a critical skill one must imbibe to navigate  in life", she said.

Mrs Shokpeka stressed on the importance of the camp activities and stated that the camp instills discipline and diligence in corps members.

She further stated that the objective of the camp is to make corps members adjust and adapt to a new lifestyle of discipline and this prepares  corps members for the one year service to their fatherland  and at the same time manage their time wisely, throughout the  service year and beyond.

She encouraged corps members to utilize all the skills the scheme had imbued in them, stating with great concern that corps members should take the SAED initiative seriously and learn a skill that could support them financially.

In the same vein, she explained that the SAED program is part of the NYSC initiative to produce vibrant and business-oriented youths who would not rely on the government or their parents for everything.

Showering praises on her work-team, she highlited that they are the best team one would desire to work with, commending their work ethics and dedication to duty.

Mrs. Shokpeka said that the only problem she has with corps members is  their dress habit. She encouraged them to always dress modestly in order to represent NYSC properly.

"Putting on the NYSC uniform makes you a brand," she said while admonishing them.

The State Coordinator finally advised corps members to take good care of themselves during their service year.

"Know how to manage stress, sleep when you should, and eat properly."

She concluded by saying that corps members should put in their best and bring out the best wherever they are, understand the objectives of the scheme, and not allow themselves to be swayed out of it.

In attendance were the Assistant Director, Press And Public Relations Unit, Mrs Okundaye Funmi,  the LGI,Ilesa East Rev Sobalaje and other  corps members.
