NYSC MADE GIANT STRIDES SINCE COLLABORATION WITH NDLEA- Shokpeka

Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator has said that the Scheme's collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has brought about great strides for the NYSC. According to her, the collaboration has greatly assisted the Scheme in keeping her members away from drug addiction.

Shokpeka made this known while commending the NDLEA when she paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State Commander, Yomade Ogunbiyi in his office in Osogbo on Monday.

She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Command for the crop of dedicated officers sent to work with the Scheme in keeping corps members drug free during Orientation programmes.

"The task of the NDLEA is to regularly find measures and means of finding out drug-related crimes, which are the cultivation, trading and use of narcotic drugs and substances.

" Since you came on board with us, we have made giant strides in keeping our corps members off drug addiction. Which has greatly enhanced their productivity during the Orientation and after.

" thank you", she added.

Shokpeka solicited for more support for the Scheme in the continued fight to keep the youths off drugs for greater productivity in life.

She asserted that the Scheme is passionate about the youths and therefore is doing everything possible to help them become better persons in life. She further said that the Scheme is not only passionate and committed to the welfare of her Corps members but also to those of the families of  Corps members who due to unforeseen circumstances paid the supreme price during the course of service to the fatherland  or suffer any form of mishap.

While concluding, she emphasized that the strength of NYSC is human capital, on that regard she assured the commander that Corps Members are duly trained to serve in any capacity they are called upon. "Do not hesitate to let us know if there is any field or expertise that the NDLEA would need corps members, let the cooperation continue", She said.

The NDLEA State Commander in his response stated that the NYSC and NDLEA had a long understanding. "Some of our initiation is the creation of the Drug Free Club Community Development Service Group which has greatly helped the Command to reach out to the youths and teenagers in the State.

" The corps members are doing very well. Recently, when the Command needed a jingle in indigenous languages, it was the DFC of Ife Central that assisted us in producing the jingle which we have sent to our Headquarters in Abuja ", he said.

He intimated and invited the State Coordinator to the burning exhibition that will be done by the Command soon. He stated that about twenty four tons of drugs will be burnt during the exhibition.

"Youth are the most vulnerable group and we will assist in any way, feel free to ask for our help anytime", he added.

The Visit also featured the presentation of NYSC publications to the Commander and vice versa.
