Teaching Is A Noble Profession - Jolayemi

 

Mrs Obi Jolayemi a Deputy Director with the Osun State Ministry of Education, has on Tuesday told the 2021 Batch A Stream II corps members that teaching is the most noble profession in the world. 


She made this statement while addressing the corps members deployed to Osun and those dislodged from lagos at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ede where she spoke to them about becoming effective teachers.

Again, she emphasized on the importance of teaching and the monumental impact it has on the lives of students. She recognised the anxiety in the minds of many Corps members concerning teaching, and assured them of the endless possibilities of the profession.


In her lecture, she stressed on the need for the Corps members as teachers to possess the qualities of teaching such as mastery of the subject matter. She further stated that the skills expected of a teacher include but are not limited to: communication skills, listening skills, organizational skills and a strong work ethics. 

She explained the components of a good lesson plan which includes: the class, subject, topic, period, behavioural objective, instructional materials and evaluation. She emphasized that the components highlighted are essential for every lesson plan. Speaking on the lesson plan, she added that it must be SMART- which means specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound 


Jolayemi highlighted the need for teachers to comport themselves in the right manner in order to earn the respect of other members of staff and students. She added that teachers needed to be disciplined as it fosters a good learning environment for the students. 

In her conclusion, she stated that corps members should ensure that their teaching is student centered for effective transfer of knowledge.
