Nysc Osun Observe Unity March To Celebrate Anniversary
To celebrate NYSC at 48, Corps members and camp officials on Saturday carried out a unity march at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede.
The NYSC Southwest Area Director, Mrs Olufunmilayo Akin- Moses, in her address spoke on the impact of the scheme over the years and stated its relevance even to the Nigerian youths today.
According to her, the NYSC is one of the most efficient establishment of the government which has served as transitional phase for young graduates and has helped to offer job experience to them. She urged everyone therefore to be good ambassadors of the scheme and defend it against all forms of opposition.
In the same vein, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adewale Adegoke accentuated the essence of the rally which is to celebrate the anniversary of the scheme and the impact it has had in fostering unity amidst Nigerians.
Again, Adegoke while highlighting the history of the scheme stated that the establishment of NYSC is the best decision ever made by the government as it has effectively ensured national integration, national unity and has bridged the gap between various ethnic groups in the country.
To begin the march, the Director Area Office passed the torch of unity to the State Coordinator who passed it on to the leader of platoon one who rallied round the field with members of the platoon chanting in harmony with placards stating the various positives about the scheme. The leader of platoon one handed over the unity torch to platoon two. The circle continued wth all the platoons going through the same procession along side their leaders.
The rally continued with all camp officials and Corps members going round the nook and crannies of the camp. In the end, all corps members and camp officials affirmed the importance of the scheme by saying: "We say no to scrapping of NYSC" "NYSC has come to stay" and "NYSC stands for unity".
