LEVENTIS SENSITIZES CORPS MEMBERS ON AGRIBUSINESS
The Principal Officer of the Leventis Foundation of Nigeria (LFN), Ilesa Branch, Dr Muyideen Popoola, has sensitized the 2021 Batch A Stream II corps members on agribusiness opportunities available through the Foundation.
He gave the sensitization at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State on Saturday.
According to him, the scheme signed an MOU with the Foundation to empower corps members through training in agribusiness in order to boost the agricultural sector of the country and help improve the economy.
While speaking to the corps members, he affirmed how the oil sector despite being the major source of income in Nigeria has not been able to incorporate at least 40% of youths into gaining employment which is why the Foundation was formed.
Again, he stated that the Foundation was formed inorder to empower youths in the agro-sector to reduce the rate of unemployment in the nation.
On the training duration of the Foundation, he said they have commenced short and long term courses for youths on effective ways to make profits out of farming, proper use of farming facilities, nutrition processes, family planning and value addition, and also improve social/civic responsibilities among the youths.
Dr. Popoola explained that LFN provides scholarships and assistance programs, and he further stated that the approach which is focused on developing entrepreneurial skills is open to establishing partnerships with relevant organizations that support their goals and visions.
Adding to that, he said that the one year program is completely free and as well provides stipends to interested corps members who as well must be willing and determined to practice farming upon the completion of their training.
He elaborated that the four aspects being covered by LFN includes: crop production and agro forestry, animal production, agric engineering department and finance.
In line with all said earlier, he made it known that the foundation will provide accommodation for it’s students who are to live in the hostel for the period of their training and also, the students are to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the hostels.
Lastly, he assured the corps members that LFN will ensure the successful actualisation of agricultural practices in Nigeria and that the agency is ready to give all the necessary support interested corps members will need.
