EVERY CHILD DESERVES QUALITY EDUCATION

Onalo Edith Paul OS/20A/0041 has embarked on a Personal Community Development Project(CDS) geared towards evaluating the capacity of Junior Secondary School Students and expanding their vocabulary skills.

The corps member has on the 30th of January, 2021 organised a spelling BEE competition between 6 schools: 3 private schools and 3 government schools in Atakunmosa West, Local Government Area, Osun State

The idea of the spelling BEE competition was as a result of the challenges students faced amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, she said learning does not have to stop.

Meanwhile, during her speech she said “Every child is intelligent but until they are encouraged, there is ignorance of their abilities”. She urged the teachers to evaluate the students capacity so as to help them know the areas in which the students need to improve on.

She further charged the students saying: “I want you to know you can be all you want to be if you read and study.” She emphasized on the core values of education and its contributions and essence in every child’s life stating that the purpose of the spelling bee competition centered on the evaluation, improvement and enhancement of students’ capacity, spelling habit, word usage and pronunciation.

The program ended with the awarding of the top 3 students and schools as a gesture to encourage other students to study always. Legacy School Osu, came first; Osu Community grammar school came second and Heritage Model School, Osu came third.

The principals and participants of the various schools expressed their profound gratitude and appreciation to the Corps Member for her support and effort in sharpening the knowledge of the students, saying it will motivate other students to take their academic work seriously.
