NYSC Director, Attah Visits AIG Zone XI, Seeks for Support of the Scheme

The Director of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), South West Area office, Mr Emmanuel Attah had on Tuesday paid a courtesy to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone XI, Mr Bashir Makama.
Mr Attah was accompanied by the Osun State Coordinator, Mr Adewale Adegoke and other officials of the scheme.

During the address of Mr Attah, he said that he had planned for the courtesy visit before the pandemic of Coronavirus but some official engagement mitigated against it.

The Director also enlightened the AIG on the role of the Area office saying, "the aim is the provision of effective monitoring and strengthening of the operational and administrative effectiveness of the scheme at the grassroots level. It is also to reduce the workload of the States' secretariat through a decentralisation process.

He said, "the Area office is saddled with the responsibility to further promote the welfare and security of corps members across the southwest states: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo."

" In view of the ever-increasing corps population, there is need to monitored and supervised their activities. Currently, we mobilise over 350,000 corps members and we must look after them to ensure that they are safe and not playing truancy at their Place  of Primary Assignment."
Attah lamented that NYSC has been a victim of fake news which is mostly perpetrated by unpatriotic Nigerians who do not wish the scheme well.

He said, "We greatly care for our corps members and "I enjoin the police to continue ensuring the safety of lives and properties of our corps members and staff alike.

"We have cases where a corps member is assaulted and robbed among others. We urge you to further protect them from all these social vices. The Director also called on the police to tap from the abundant talent of the corps members as exhibited during this pandemic period.

Responding to address of the NYSC Director, AIG Zone XI, Mr Makama said, the police does not have any other thing to give to corps members than safety.

His words: "All we have for corps members is to protect and ensure they are safe. We see them as our babies who need care and orientation before they are fully fused to our society. We assure you that the lives and properties of corps members are safe.

He further called on the Director to seek any assistance required from the police. That the force will be there to render such. The AIG expressed joy at the visit.
