BODY SHAMING By Abdullahi Ibrahim O.
I am! Am I? Am I You?
Worthy am I? It heartily squalled.
Whispers, Sitcoms, they piqued.
I can hear the cruel jokes.
My appearance, my hokes?
I’m proud of what?
It starts with a word, one word you blurt.
Could you like me to be smaller, weaker, uglier.
If I lived by then, I would be fatter, stronger, prettier.
I am my own critic.
How vicarious, you’re my body cynic!
Another piece of me chiseled away,
My self esteem… day by day.
We’re not the same.
I’m changing lanes.
Your stares, your disapproval,
Your sigh of relief, your committal!
I wear more if I wear less,
I look more if I look less.
Too skinny, Too fat, better than you do.
My body, Not your body! …
