NYSC Partners with Osun Government in Delivering Basic Healthcare to Rural Dwellers


The National Youth Service Corps has partnered with the Osun State Government to deliver free medical care to rural dwellers in Egbeda community, Boripe Local Government Area on Thursday.

The program which was aimed at taking health care to rural dwellers tagged "Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD)" took place at Egbeda Community Middle School in Boripe Local Government.





While giving  his address, the Osun state NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke noted that the program which was established in 2014 has been continued by the management. He said, " HIRD goals is for the scheme to provide health care for rural dwellers, making use of corps paramedics serving the nation in order to assist the government in her health care policy."



He further stated that, "We partnered with the State Government through the Boripe local government chairman to get the drugs for this program... Amidst the corps members that will be attending to villagers here, we have medical doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, and pharmacists to give the residents the best medical care freely", he added.




Adegoke said that the program is a quarterly programme of the scheme geared towards taking free healthcare service to the rural areas as part of the scheme's cooperate social responsibility. He further commended the state government for supporting the scheme's  programs in the state.

While flagging off the program, the chairman of Boripe Local Government Area, Rev. Oyeyiola Adebayo noted that the program is a very good attempt at serving God through selfless service to humanity.

In his words, "We appreciate the scheme for having a program like this and bringing it to this particular community".




"Governor Gboyega Oyetola takes the health of the citizenry as a priority. In Osun State,  medical centers are been renovated, staffed and stocked with drugs."

He pointed out that recently, "the local government renovated the health care center and it earned them the governor's award. This feat made us welcome the idea of the scheme."

For the drugs that were not available, the Chairman urged the medical team of NYSC to give referral letters to patients for collection at the local government secretariat.
