Venerable Ajayi Admonishes Corps Members on Life After The Orientation Course*

*Venerable Ajayi Admonishes Corps Members on Life After The Orientation Course*

A Retired Director of the NYSC, Venerable A. T. Ajayi, on Tuesday admonished the 2019 batch C stream II corps members on how to conduct themselves upon leaving the orientation camp.

He explained why the NYSC Scheme employs the use of code numbers and uniforms. The code number is primarily for identification purposes while the uniform is to unify every individual corps member, considering the fact that they are from different background, culture, tribe, and institution. Hence the uniform would help instill oneness, so as to help create a better Nigeria.

He also emphasised the need for corps members to always wear the uniform decently, according to him, "your uniform has value, which makes you an ambassador of Nigeria, ensure to always wear it decently".

Also, Ajayi urged corps members to positively impact the lives of the people they would meet at their places of primary assignment, he stated that, "your purpose is to have a voice in your host community, influence them with a positive mindset".

Furthermore, he advised corps members to embrace the SAED programme, and reiterated the need for graduates to empower themselves with one or more entrepreneurial skill. According to him, "your certificate made you a generalist, while your skill will make you a specialist". "The NYSC Scheme is a platform for you to utilize your skill, while the SAED programme would maximise those skills" he said.

On a final note, he encouraged corps members to be productive and not waste their resources, "do not waste your resources, attend the SAED program and choose a skill" he said.
