Okpalifo Explains The Modul-Operandi Of 'The Carrot And Stick' Branch Of the NYSC To Corps Members
The Assistant Director Corps Discipline and Reward, a branch popularly called 'the carrot and stick' branch, Mrs Obiageli Okpalifo explained the modul-operandi of the branch to corps members.
She gave the explanation while delivering a lecture at the ongoing 2019 batch C Stream II orientation course at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ede on Saturday.
During her lecture, Okpalifo enjoined the corps members to always be disciplined in their conducts while undergoing their one year mandatory service in Osun state.
She went further to stress that, rewards are attached to corps members who are discipline and outstanding in their performance and who also boost development in their host communities. She sighted CDS as one of the avenues that attracts rewards for corps members.
She further enlightened corps members on the kinds of awards available to corps members which are: Local Government Chairman's Award which is an award of merit; State Government Award which may attract automatic employment and certificate of merit and the Presidential Award which entails scholarship, automatic employment in any ministry and presidential handshake in Aso Villa while the state coordinator's commendation is also a part of the scheme's carrot system.
Furthermore, Mrs Obiageli emphasised that corps members are to deliver quality service without considering the award attached but be men and women of integrity and stand by their oath of allegiance.
Also in her lecture, she stated that '' if you are not disciplined, you cannot achieve your goal in life''. She urged corps members to be law abiding and work diligently for development in any area they find themselves for service. She further enlightened the corps members on the disciplinary measures put in place to check unruly behaviour and failure to serve as spelt out in the NYSC Bye laws.
The punishments according to her, range from extension of service to remobilisation which is a repeat of service for corps members who abscond during the service year.
