PET Corps Members Sensitize Schools on Gender Equality
The corps members from the Peer Education Trainers (PET) CDS group, Osogbo Local Government have sensitized the students of Salvation Army Government Middle School, Osogbo on the menace of gender discrimination in the 21st century society.
The sensitization program which was held at the school premises with the theme "FIGHT AGAINST: Gender Discrimination, Female Circumcision, and Abortion" had various sessions including lectures, drama presentation, poetry to name a few.
During the lecture, the Facilitator, Miss Faith Tolulope explained that though sex and gender are used interchangeably, but they are not the same. She said "the most striking difference between sex and gender is that, sex roles are universal and unaffected by the society whereas gender roles are not universal and vary within societies.
In a statement to the press, the President of the CDS group, Mr. Kehinde Adéyemà vindicated that the movement against gender discrimination has liberated about 200 students, who are equally becoming Peer Education Trainers. He also revealed that Peer Education Club will commence in schools soonest.
In response, the students expressed their utmost gratitude with unceasing applause and cheers, chanting the group slogan SAVING LIVES!
