INTEGRITY

“What would they think of me?”… “How would he/she react?”… “Won't I be criticized for hitting the nail on the head?’’. Sometimes, these rhetorical questions tends to popup on our minds whenever life requires us to give account of certain occurrences. Hereby, causing our minds to be in a state of dilemma at that particular moment. As human beings, we usually don’t want to step on anyone’s toe. Probably because we care about them or we are scared of their repulsive reactions. But the bitter truth is that to attain a life of integrity, we will always have to step on as many toes that needs to be stepped on as possible. Does that mean we should be deliberate in hurting people’s feelings?.Definitely not!!. We’re all humans, and life is just configured that way. It’s now the choice of every individual which/whose toes to step on. That’s where the role of our integrity comes in.

.
Integrity literarily means the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change as an individual. It's when our behavior matches our beliefs. When what you say and what you do match up,we can say you have integrity. It's When your private life and your public life align. It is when you walk your talk and practice what you preach. Basically, our ability to say and do what is “JUST” both under surveillance or not portray the term “INTEGRITY”. Integrity can sometimes relate to honesty, competence, persistence, ethics e.t.c. You all will agree with me that our world would be a better if we lived with integrity. Lack of integrity seems to be causing a lot of damage to our society. All that a person has to do is to read news updates on the media about someone who everyone thought was the “real deal”, only to learn they had fallen into some shocking behavior.

On many occasions, life will question our integrity as individuals. We usually have free-wills/choices of decisions in these cases. But it is our choice of making the right decisions that speak positively of your integrity. For instance;
• Going back to the store and pay for an item you forgot to pay for (knowing that you have the choice whether “to” or “not to" go back).
• You remaining loyal to your spouse in a relationship (also knowing that you have the choice whether “to” or “not to” be faithful) e.t.c.

However, integrity is perhaps the most important principle of leadership because it demands truthfulness and honesty. Apparently, majority of job employers seeks for employees with attributes of integrity. Even, employers that doesn’t have any integrity in them wouldn’t want employees of their own kind, they prefer someone with integrity in order to aid the services. It is of greater advantage to be a person with integrity though, it may cost you somethings sometimes. But it is majorly of greater advantage than disadvantage;
• It extends your influence on people.
• It also create trust and reliability of others in you.
We all should try to inculcate a lifestyle of integrity, so as to make the world a better place.
