NYSC EMPOWERS STAFF TOWARDS EFFICIENT SERVICE DELIVERY
Character and attitudinal change has been described as the panacea to efficient service delivery. This was the theme of the one day workshop organised for officers of the scheme in 17 southern states.
The workshop aimed at empowering members of staff toward discharging their duties professionally and efficiently.
This was made known by the Assistant Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mr Abdul Suleiman who facilitated the workshop at the conference room of the NYSC Osun State Secretariat on Monday, 21st October, 2019. According to him, staff must eschew every act that undermines the scheme by putting on a positive attitude towards their work and in their dealings with corps members.
He stated that corps exploitation, truancy, lack of professionalism, poor attitude to work can clog the wheel of progress of the scheme and therefore must be avoided. He reiterated the Director General's commitment to the welfare of corps members and staff of the scheme and called on staff to recalibrate their minds and ensure their attitudes, words and conduct depict professionalism, contentment and integrity.
Abdul added that field officers should be more accessible to their corps members as "most of the corps members find it easier to talk to the State Coordinator and the Director General than the local government inspector who is supposed to be closer to the corps members.
"As field officers, we must learn to listen and be very patient with our corps members. To achieve this, we need to adorn ourselves with a positive mindset and attitude" he said.
Abdul further spoke extensively on the character traits and attitudes expected of field officers, secretariat staff, superiors and subordinates if an efficient service must be delivered.
He also encouraged members of staff to always learn to look at the positive aspect of the things that happen to them rather than the negative,he stressed that the Director General has their interest at heart.
Speaking at the workshop, the State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke reminded participants of the Director General's zero tolerance to corruption and enjoined them to adhere strictly to the guidelines guiding the conduct of officers of the scheme as contained in the public service rule.
Adegoke further stressed on the dividends of good character and a positive attitude. He warned that unethical conduct and extortion of corps members will be dealt with administratively.
The workshop ended with an interactive session where members of the management team and staff proffered ways to enhance the operations of the scheme and encourage a positive attitude of staff to work.
Correspondingly, Mr Adegoke charged field officers to work on the resuscitation of the local government committee to see to the welfare of corps members in the various local government areas. He made the charge during the pre-orientation meeting with members of staff.
According to him, the Director General, Brig. Gen. Shuiabu Ibrahim having seen what the scheme has achieved in the state has mandated other states to work on having their own bakery or water factory during orientation programmes.
He also stepped down the information and training of the just concluded Annual Management Conference to the staff to ensure the elimination of ignorance and a greater collaboration towards the achievement of the scheme's objectives.
