DIRECTOR GENERAL URGES CORPS MEMBERS TO BE DISCIPLINED AND SECURITY CONSCIOUS THROUGHOUT THEIR SERVICE YEAR
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Shuiabu Ibrahim has urged the 1800 corps members deployed to Osun State for the 2019 Batch B stream II orientation course to be disciplined and security conscious at all times. The Director General made the call while addressing the members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Wednesday 4th September, 2019.
Speaking further, he advised the corps members on ways to enhance and make effective their service year, while stating that security consciousness and discipline had major roles to play. He stressed the need for corps members to be of good behavior, stating that their actions could be used for or against them in the nearest future.
He also stated that about 90% of the cause of corps members' death have been attributed to unnecessary travels and therefore pleaded with corps members to follow due process if they must embark on any journey at all.
The Director General emphasized on the issue of integrity in all of the dealings of corps members during and after their service year. He took time to point out the implications of having a stain on one's public records; strongly warning the members against falsifying documents to secure posting or relocation. A clean record, according to him, will always work in their favour now and in the future.
Furthermore, he encouraged corps members to study the NYSC bye-laws so they can walk within the orbit of the law throughout the service year. According to him, studying the bye-laws will equip them them for the task ahead.
Brig. Gen. Ibrahim also took corps members through the cardinal programmes of the NYSC ranging from the Orientation, Place of Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, to Passing out Parade with emphasis on the orientation program, stating that it fosters unity and integration.
In his concluding remark, the Director General advised the corps members to make judicious use of the skills and entrepreneurship development training and to also make their country proud by contributing positively to her socio-economic development.
Correspondingly, corps members including the overall parade commander, quarter guard, Cultural troupe, man 'o'war, amongst others were given gifts by the Director General.
Highlight of the event was the visit of the Director General to the proposed NYSC South West Area Office and the NYSC land in Osogbo which was acquired by the scheme years ago. Speaking on the land, the Director General commended the management of the scheme in the State and advised that corps members expertise be harnessed in developing the land, which, he said, should be regarded as part of their community development service.
