RURAL DEVELOPMENT A PANACEA TO RURAL GROWTH - Adegoke
The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke has said that the NYSC scheme will partner with the Center for Rural Affairs and Community Development (CERACODE) in its vision of promoting rural development in order to sustain the one of the cardinal programmes of NYSC, which is the Community Development Service.
Adegoke stated this at the 2nd Annual International Small Town and Rural Development Conference (STARDEC), during a courtesy visit on Tuesday 6th of August 2019 to the Eburu of Ibaland, His Royal Highness (Prof.)Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye, Oyedeji II, in his palace in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Osun State.
CERACODE which is a private, non profit and non governmental organization based in Iba, was formed in response to the yearnings of rural communities for all round development most especially developing countries such as Nigeria.
Adegoke who went with his management team posited that CERACODE is a welcomed development that will encourage rural development in the community as well as drive holistic rural growth.
Oba Adekunle who appreciated the state coordinator and his management team for the visit, stressed that corps members deployed to Iba local government have been good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme. It is in this regard he stated that CERACODE is able to function through the efforts of the corps members. He therefore advised that corps members should utilize the knowledge garnered into good use as this will further promote rural development in their host communities.
Oba Adekunle further enjoined corps members to integrate themselves well not for today but for the future as according to him "you never can tell. Many of the meaningful friendships and connections I have today where born during my service year. Therefore, I want you to interact well with people as service itself is about interaction".
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of Osun State, Dr, Charles Akinola, who chaired the occasion, advised that corps members should take advantage of CERACODE by breaking new grounds that will produce new developments in rural communities, adding that Corps members should display creativity in every endeavour and believe in the greatness of Nigeria.
