NEMA OFFICIAL TRAINS CORPS MEMBERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF NEMA
The Ekiti State Operation Zonal Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Olusegun Afolayan has stated that NEMA is an agency that was created for the purpose of regulating disasters in the country. Mr Afolyan stated this during a training held in Olorunda local government for corps members in the NEMA CDS group in Osogbo. Afolayan, in the course of the training noted that disasters are bound to happen but can be regulated if handled properly.
Afolayan who classified disasters as man made and natural disasters encouraged corps members to take active measures in order to avoid the occurrence of disasters. In the same vein, he stated that the causes of disasters are poverty, environmental situation and mechanical fault.
Also speaking at the training were Mr Abolarin Ayodele and Mr Aladodohunsi Victor, senior search and rescue agent, who lectured on the importance of first aid. Mr Ayodele while speaking, stressed that the objective of first aid is to save life. During the training, corps members were educated on the importance of the equipments contained in the first aid box.
The training sensitized the corps members on the different kinds of bleeding which include minor and major bleeding as well as the ways of preventing the bleeding by using direct pressure method or indirect pressure method. The training also featured practicals that enabled for better understanding.
