NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL: A DISTRACTION TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS -CHIEF CADET

- Rachael Chima

"The Not Too Young To Run Bill earlier passed by President Muhammadu Buhari is a distraction to  the Nigerian youths..."

This statement was made by the chief cadet, FRSC group,  Olaniyan Adesoji, during an inter CDS debate held at Oshogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.

The bill alters sections 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to reduce the age qualification of the president from 40 to 30 years,  Governor, from 35 to 30 years,  Senate,  from 35 to 30 years,  House of Representatives, From 30 to 25 years and so on.

Reiterating the current economic situation of the country, Cadet Olaniyan stated that Nigerian youths are not ready to handle such herculeantask of leading a country.

Seconding Cadet Olaniyan, a member of the group, Miss Ayomide Nee, posited that rather than the NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL, the future of the youths could be guaranteed by equipping them with good employments.

Meanwhile, the SDGs CDS group stated that embracing the bill will further foster socioeconomic development in the country.

Mr Anthony Ukoh of the SDGs group, in his own view posited that the bill will not only provide for young persons to run for various elective offices, but will also provide for independent candidacy, which is commendable.

Also supporting the NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN bill, Miss Oladele, noted that since the largest proportion of the world's population are youths,  it is therefore necessary that the youths participate in the governance of the country.
